Server and Desktop Solutions

Need of Going Digital

If we take a look at the time taken for each transaction or each request to get completed using just pen and paper, it’s over 100 times the time taken by a digital computing device such as a desktop or a server. In fact the need of going digital is much more than just to save a lot of time. What if there is a huge disaster and all the files (paper based) get spoiled either due to fire or water. So how do we get all the data back? It’s gone forever. Also with the traditional system to send data from one place to another was very much dependent on human transport and also was a little risky if it had been a confidential file.

While in Digital environment, we don’t face that issue. With all the data equipment and the desktops and servers, the transactions happen faster as well as more reliable with all the latest data security solutions we have in place. If we need to send a data to someone in our office, we have multiple options today based on the kind of data. We can email them, share the files with them if they are on our local network but in a different physical location and we can also back them up in a SharePoint (a share portal for data).

So let’s take a look at the two very important components of the digital solution:

Servers

Servers are used for various purposes from hosting applications we use in our environment to store the data at a central repository to create new applications based on the requirement. A server can be hosted either as a standalone or in clustered environment. Clustered servers are recommended in enterprise environment as it adds resilience. Servers can be physical as well as virtual. While physical servers add more stability, they occupy a lot of space and add overhead for management too. Virtual servers are so much better from a management perspective using centralized solutions.

Key Features

  • Have very high amount of RAM to support all the traffic that comes its way
  • Have a different and dedicated OS compared to the regular PCs and it has lot of services enabled in it with very high amount of security
  • Better Form Factor compared to the counter parts
  • Worth the money and uses Network Storage compared to dedicated HDD so it adds flexibility in case of disaster

Desktops

Desktops as compared to servers are simpler and generally used to server one user and the main purpose is to connect the end user to the rest of the network as well as the entire internet cloud. Desktops are used to login to the servers as well as to connect with others in office using various tools like chat tools and other applications.

Key Features

  • Desktops are simpler compared to servers
  • These are easy to install and manage
  • Dedicated to a single user as compared to shared architecture of servers
  • Cheaper as compared to servers
  • Data can be backed up to remote storage using backup software

So using this digital equipment the business works very fast as compared to traditional system. Almost all the companies and governments around the globe have adopted this solution and it has shown vast improvements. These servers and desktops work in collaboration with other equipment like Storage, Networking devices and all these together connect the digital world.
